Australia defeated India by 7 wickets in the 2nd T20 International played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Australia won the series by 2-0. India were the favourites for winning the series as they hadn’t lost a T20 series against Australia in more than a decade. However, the wait ended for Australia on 27 February as they chased down a challenging total of 190 set by India. It was an exceptional performance from Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell shocked the stuffed home fans to quiet with his dazzling execution. He took a couple of balls to get himself in and following the early exit of Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch he successfully built a partnership with D’Arcy Short to put Australia back on track.
Maxwell took the charge on the Indian bowlers and was looking in great touch. He single-handedly dragged his team through victory. He ended the match in fashion as well. He first scored a six and then a winning four.
King Kohli’s knock goes in vain
Once again Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. India had a fine start to their innings. KL Rahul carried his form from the previous match and scored a quick-fire 47 off just 26 balls. Unfortunately, he couldn’t reach his fifty and was caught by Jhye Richardson. Shikhar Dhawan was struggling to time the ball and never looked in good touch. He scored a meager 14 off 24 balls and was caught by Stoinis at sweeper cover. Rishabh Pant had a short stay at the crease. He was dismissed on 1 by Short through a stunning catch by Richardson at long-on. Then Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni built a partnership of 100 off just 49 balls for the 4th wicket. MS Dhoni who was criticized for India’s loss in the previous match scored 40 runs in 23 balls. This was a perfect reply from Dhoni to those who criticized him for his abilities. He was caught on 40 by Aaron Finch, the Australian skipper. Dhoni has been in top form in 2019.
Virat Kohli played a magnificent inning of 72 in just 38 deliveries and also remained not out. He took the charge to the Australian bowlers and helped his team to reach a huge total of 190 on the board. Dinesh Karthik too remained unbeaten on 8 of 3 balls.
Maxwell steers Australia to victory
Once again Australia didn’t have a good start to their innings. Marcus Stoinis was clean bowled on 7 by Siddharth Kaul. Aaron Finch whose poor show with the bat continues was caught on 8 by Dhawan bowled by Vijay Shankar. Then for the second time in the series D’Arcy Short and Maxwell reconstructed the innings. Short played a brilliant knock of 40 in just 28 balls. He was dismissed by Vijay Shankar on 40. Glenn Maxwell scored a scintillating century in just 50 balls. He remained unbeaten on 113 off 55 balls and Peter Handscomb too remained unbeaten on 20. Maxwell carried on his prolific form from the previous match in which he scored a fifty and guided his team to victory and in this match too he did the same. It was truly an entertaining inning from him.
Australia has won the T20 series. They will have a lot of confidence at the start of the ODI series. India will be looking to bounce back and also win the series. The series starts on 2 March.
