Manchester United defeated Tottenham Hotspur by 1-0 in the Premier League match on 13 January played at the Wembley Stadium. Only one goal was scored in the whole match and that was by Marcus Rashford in the 44th minute i.e. just before the half time. Spurs were on the top of their game in the second half but they couldn’t secure a win for themselves. They were unable to score even a single goal which could have led to a draw in the end.
David De Gea: The player behind United’s win
Even though a goal was scored by Marcus Rashford in the 44th minute to hand United the win but it was the exceptional performance from their goalkeeper David De Gea which helped them to win the match. It was an incredible goal-keeping from De Gea as he made 11 saves in the second half of the match and thus, denying the Spurs to score even a single goal. Paul Pogba made a great pass to Rashford who put the ball into the net to give United a lead in the 44th minute. De Gea’s sensational save came from the header of Delle Alli and also he used his left leg to deny a goal to Toby Alderweireld. He didn’t let Harry Kane score on a couple of occasions too. He created a record in the Premier League as the most saves(11) in the second half of a match. The possession of Spurs was much better than that of United and they made a total of 21 attempts but the world class goal-keeping of De Gea didn’t allow them to score.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes it six out of six
After the win from Spurs, Ole (the caretaker manager) made it six wins out of six for Manchester United. Their great form continues. He said, “Result-wise to come away from here and beat Spurs is fantastic”. With this win and Arsenal’s loss against West Ham, United are at the sixth place with 41 points equalling with Arsenal.
